Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Counter Check Inc. ("we," "us," "our") collects, why, and what happens to it. It applies to the Counter Check web app and browser extension. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy — see our Terms of Use for the rules governing your account.
The short version: we collect what's needed to run the Service and improve it for you — your account details, the quotes you submit for review, and how you use the app. We don't sell your data, and we don't run ads. Quote content is sent to our AI provider to generate your results; that's the one third party that sees the substance of what you paste in.
Information we collect
- Account information: shop name, email address, password (stored as a hash, never in plain text), city, province/state, and country.
- Quote content: whatever you submit for review — pasted text, a screenshot or photo, or a fetched link. This may include details the document itself contains, such as a customer's name, vehicle information, or a VIN, if your shop's own quotes include those.
- Review results and your decisions: the AI-generated analysis of each submission, and what you mark as Changed, Ignored, or Edited on each suggestion.
- Settings you configure: your shop rate, parts margin, diagnostic rate, specialty, and any items you've asked the Service not to suggest.
- Usage data: when reviews are run, how many, and general engagement with the app's features.
- Support messages: anything you send us through Contact Support.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we don't track you across other websites.
How we use it
- To provide the Service — running your reviews, saving your history, showing your tracked results;
- To ground pricing and suggestions in your shop's own configured rate, margin, and location;
- To respond to support requests and send account-related emails, like password resets;
- To monitor and improve the Service, including understanding overall usage and reliability;
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your information. It's shared only with the service providers that make Counter Check work:
- Anthropic — quote content you submit is sent to Anthropic's API to generate your review. See Anthropic's own privacy policy for how they handle that data.
- Supabase — hosts our database, where your account and review history are stored.
- Vercel — hosts the application itself.
- Resend — sends transactional email on our behalf, like password resets and support replies.
If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is handled by a third-party payment processor, who receives what's needed to process your payment — we don't store your full card details ourselves.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Counter Check Inc., our users, or others.
Leaderboard (optional)
Counter Check offers an optional Leaderboard, showing which shops have run the most reviews and which have the highest average capture score each month. This is entirely opt-in — nothing about your shop appears on it unless you turn it on yourself in Settings. If you do, your shop name, monthly review count, and average score become visible to every other shop using Counter Check. You can turn this off at any time, which removes your shop from the Leaderboard immediately.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and its associated data at any time through Contact Support — we'll remove it, except where we're required to retain something by law.
Security
Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Sessions are managed through secure, httpOnly cookies. Access to shop data is restricted to your own account, with a separate administrative view used only for aggregate business reporting. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable, industry-standard steps to protect your information.
Your choices
- You can access and update most of your account information directly in Settings.
- You can request a copy of your data, or its deletion, through Contact Support.
- You control what goes into a quote submission — avoid including anything you don't want processed by our AI provider if that's a concern for a particular job.
- You control whether your shop appears on the Leaderboard, and can turn it on or off at any time in Settings.
International use
Counter Check Inc. is operated from Canada. If you're using the Service from the United States or elsewhere, your information will be processed in Canada and possibly other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your own.
Children's privacy
The Service is intended for business use by automotive shops and their staff, not for children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll make reasonable efforts to flag material changes, such as a notice in the app. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Policy.
